Pressing On to the Prize

1. Philippians 3:14

NASB ~ I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.

ESV ~ I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.

NIV ~ I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.


2. Hebrews 11:8

NASB ~ By faith Abraham, when he was called, obeyed by going out to a place which he was to receive for an inheritance; and he went out, not knowing where he was going.

ESV ~ By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to a place that he was to receive as an inheritance. And he went out, not knowing where he was going.

NIV ~ By faith Abraham, when called to go to a place he would later receive as his inheritance, obeyed and went, even though he did not know where he was going.


3. Mark 4:19

NASB ~ but the worries of the world, and the deceitfulness of riches, and the desires for other things enter in and choke the word, and it becomes unfruitful.

ESV ~ but the cares of the world and the deceitfulness of riches and the desires for other things enter in and choke the word, and it proves unfruitful.

NIV ~ but the worries of this life, the deceitfulness of wealth and the desires for other things come in and choke the word, making it unfruitful.


4. Colossians 3:14

NASB ~ Beyond all these things put on love, which is the perfect bond of unity.

ESV ~ And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony.

NIV ~ And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.


5. 1 Timothy 6:11

NASB ~ But flee from these things, you man of God, and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, perseverance and gentleness.

ESV ~ But as for you, O man of God, flee these things. Pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, steadfastness, gentleness.

NIV ~ But you, man of God, flee from all this, and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance and gentleness.


6. 1 Corinthians 9:24

NASB ~ Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but only one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may win.

ESV ~ Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one receives the prize? So run that you may obtain it.

NIV ~ Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize.


7. 1 Peter 5:4

NASB ~ And when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the unfading crown of glory.

ESV ~ And when the chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the unfading crown of glory.

NIV ~ And when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the crown of glory that will never fade away.


8. Hebrews 12:1

NASB ~ Therefore, since we have so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us also lay aside every encumbrance and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us,

ESV ~ Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us,

NIV ~ Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.


9. Hebrews 12:2

NASB ~ fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

ESV ~ looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.

NIV ~ Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.


10. Hebrews 12:15

NASB ~ See to it that no one comes short of the grace of God; that no root of bitterness springing up causes trouble, and by it many be defiled;

ESV ~ See to it that no one misses the grace of God and that no bitter root grows up to cause trouble and defile many become defiled;

NIV ~ See to it that no one misses the grace of God and that no bitter root grows up to cause trouble and defile many.
